Park Plaza Hotel....formerly the B.P.O.E (Benevolent and Protective Order of Elks) Lodge #99

The Elk's Lodge No. 99 / Park Plaza Hotel is located at 607 Park View St just off Wilshire Blvd across the street from MacArthur Park in Los Angeles, California. It was built 1923-24 and created in the Neo-Gothic style by renowned art deco architect Claud Beelman. It is 11 concrete Stories..and was a private retreat for the BPOE which numbered in the thousands and included LA’s wealthy and powerful. The monochromatic exterior features stylized Assyrian friezes, sculpted figures in military uniforms and massive cast stone warrior angels guarding the plinth and tower at every corner. One day..I'd love to see the interior...

Today...Lovey and I are at MacArthur Park (formerly known as Westlake Park) which is surrounded by 6th Street, Alvarado, 7th Street and S.Park View...and Wilshire runs through the middle. We've been craving the #19 at Langer's...so we thought we'd make a day of it and enjoy the park and surroundings... Los Angeles, CA (Jan 4, 2013)
