The Strait of Otranto, to which the city gives its name, connects the Adriatic Sea with the Ionian Sea. The Palazzo was built at the time of the Spanish Dominion by the noble Lopez family. To the older nucleus, constituted by the 16th Century house-tower in the 17th Century a bigger building was added to complete the patrician abode.
