NOTE: Founded May 27, 1692 by Bishop Castilian Antonio Perez De la Lastra. Dilapidated houses bought by the foundation converted into a convent which still hosts a community of Carmelite nuns. The first Mass was celebrated on April 23, 1690 by its founder, Monsignor Perez, a Spaniard who had fought hard to achieve his dream of bringing this into the Salento peninsula spirituality of St. Teresa, better known to all as the Holy of Avila. Since then, in the closed walls of the cloistered, daily, time becomes silent prayer and community, it is labor intensive and secret. We have 11 days in Puglia..today we're here in Gallipoli, now on the Ionian Coast, Salentina Peninsula still in the Province of Lecce. We're staying in the old City.
